The Steve Tucker All Star Jazz Band

From Popular Swing Jazz and Romantic Ballads to New Orleans Classics

Welcome to the Official Steve Tucker All Star Jazz Band Website. The All Stars are one of the top South West function and festival traditional swing jazz bands. As befits the busy schedule of a successful working jazz and blues band, the gig list includes all kinds of bookings, from wedding receptions to garden parties, from dinner dances to corporate promotions, and summer balls to riverboat jazz cruises.

Steve launched the jazz band in North Devon (UK) seven years ago, basing the sound on the ever popular classic songs and show tunes of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. The Steve Tucker All Stars have had great popularity around Devon and have benefited from good CD airplay from the BBC in particular, whilst newspapers and magazines have generously acknowledged the band's energy, enthusiasm and performance.

"The Steve Tucker All Star Jazz Band brings breathtaking fresh life to the jazz classics of the era. The melodic, versatile voice of Steve is underpinned by the dynamic energy, passion and sensitivity of a very experienced front line combining with the powerful, driving, tight, swinging rhythm section. This Devon based jazz band will make your event a memorable success." (The North Devon Journal)

Steve has played or recorded with many top West Country jazz bands and musicians: Derek Winters (Ken Colyer & Chris Blount band), Norman Thatcher (Ken Colyer band), Alan Robinson of the Ken Colyer Trust band, jazz guitarist Tony Oreshko, Jez Huggett (Hawkwind and Band of Gold), Brian Carrick and Roy Pellett, and winner of the prestigious Cleo Laine award Joy Parke, to name a but a few. New Newsletter BAND NEWSLETTER
Here we are into September already and we are still waiting for that promised long English summer. The boys still have their summer shorts and tees in the suitcase and the pimms has been chilling for months now. The All Stars have just come back from the internationally renowned Bude Jazz Festival, now in its twenty first year, sharing the stage and billing with some of the top class acts in the country: The Jive Aces, Slammers Maximum Jive and The Red Stripe Band.

For the first time the festival had its own dedicated dance marquee featuring jive and swing bands from all over the country. This is where the All Stars this year took the new official title of the South West's no. 1 Jazz, Jive and Swing band, a quote coming direct from the dancers themselves.

With two storming concerts, completely selling out of CDs and keeping those jivers and dancers on the floor for the whole two gigs, it was fabulously great fun. The quality and standard of the dancers at Bude this year was simply tremendous, coming from all over the country and for the first time many Jive and Lindy Hopper clubs attended, really showing some of the jazzers how to dress and dance. It was great to meet Jane and Derek Narramore dance teachers and organizers of the South West Lindy Hoppers and good to see the man again that always takes Bude by storm with his dancing skills and harem of many ladies queuing up to be his partner, Mr. Gordon Lambsdale.

We are planning to include very soon in this website a special photographic section of the dancers at Bude 2008. Official Festival photographer Robert Coles and Jan Gent from Jinglejangle Design were taking shots all week of the dancers so keep checking this website and see how much fun we all had.

The Band's season has been very busy with many festivals, Summer Balls and Weddings, its busiest to date and the new 27 track box set with free DVD has been re-run now 3 times, gaining good airplay on the BBC and is on the playlist of the World Jazz Radio Station (go to www.seanmoyses.com and click on the Trad Jazz Radio link for the happy sound of traditional jazz 24 hours a day, 7 days a week). See below for details of how to order your copy of our box set.

The All Stars residency is proving a huge success, The Tarka Line Jazz Train runs every last Sunday of the month to The Fox and Hounds Country Hotel in Eggesford, Devon. Trains leave Barnstaple and Exeter central and arrive at this idyllic country manor for Sunday lunch or afternoon drinks. The band start playing at 1pm and finish at 4pm. Booking is strongly advised for this popular event on 01769 580345.

Copies of the Devon and Cornwall Jazz Diary are available through this website, a publication highlighting all the jazz concerts in the South West, and The National Jazz Guide is also available giving listings of all the Jazz events throughout the UK. Simply leave your email details through our contacts page. Post and package costs apply.

A message to all our brides passing through this website: please contact the band about wedding bookings as early as possible as we don't want to disappoint you. Many brides magazines and publications say in their lists of things to do when planning your Wedding "book your band or entertainment three month in advance". Please don't follow this advice! The All Stars already have taken some Wedding bookings as far ahead as 2010!

We have a strong presence on myspace and youtube this year. click on these links to see and hear the guys in action.
