The Steve Tucker All Star Jazz Band

From Popular Swing Jazz and Romantic Ballads to New Orleans Classics

Welcome to the Official Steve Tucker All Star Jazz Band Website. The All Stars are one of the top South West function and festival traditional swing jazz bands. As befits the busy schedule of a successful working jazz and blues band, the gig list includes all kinds of bookings, from wedding receptions to garden parties, from dinner dances to corporate promotions, and summer balls to riverboat jazz cruises.

Steve launched the jazz band in North Devon (UK) ten years ago, basing the sound on the ever popular classic songs and show tunes of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. The Steve Tucker All Stars have had great popularity around Devon and have benefited from good CD airplay from the BBC in particular, whilst newspapers and magazines have generously acknowledged the band's energy, enthusiasm and performance.

   BAND NEWSLETTER
The Steve Tucker Tarka Line Jazz Train runs on the 29th of January 2012, with special guest Jeremy Huggett. The band will meet and greet you at the Fox and Hounds Country Hotel, Devon. Please see our gig page for more details.

HI EVERYBODY AND WELCOME TO OUR 10th ANNIVERSARY NEWSLETTER

The band is now in its 10th year, and what a decade it has been!

It started with a concert at the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe in 2001; the All Stars recorded their first album which featured a classic New Orleans line up drawn from musicians Steve had played with 10 years prior. On trumpet Derek Winters, on clarinet Gordon Hunt, Bob Manuel on trombone, John Baker banjo and Guy Fenton on drums, all very experienced South West traditional New Orleans players.

Their second album in 2003 expanded the line up to include the already mentioned and featured other musical friends of Steve: Dave Soby on piano, Graham Trevarton trumpet, Ron Milford trombone, Dave Vaughan reeds, Malcolm Hurrell banjo, Stan Thomas reeds, Angus Thomson cornet, Tim Bragg drums and Brian Huggett reeds.

From this plethora of musicians Steve brought together Dave Soby, Angus Thomson, Dave Vaughan and Tim Bragg.

10 years on and 6 albums later powerhouse pianist Simon Banks joins the band and holds the piano chair, Jim Newton plays drums and percussion and John Westaway plays guitar completing today's line up. The All Stars new live album and DVD is out now - see the Recordings page.

Our monthly Tarka Line Jazz Train has proven to be a huge success. Now in its 9th year it is great fun and has a very friendly loyal atmosphere. We run a train from Barnstaple, Exeter and Exmouth every last Sunday of the month all year round. We no longer play on board the train as the band has grown in size, and the platform at Eggesford is not big enough (health and safety!) See below for press details:

The history of the band's Tarka Line jazz train makes a very interesting read; it has hit local and national press and has had its extremely emotional ups and downs. Click the link below to see the story:
