BAND NEWSLETTER
|
HI EVERYBODY AND WELCOME TO OUR 20th ANNIVERSARY NEWSLETTER
The band is now in its 20th year, and what a 20 years it has been!
It started with a concert at the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe in 2001; the All Stars recorded their first album which featured a classic New Orleans line up drawn from musicians Steve had played with 10 years prior. On trumpet Derek Winters, on clarinet Gordon Hunt, Bob Manuel on trombone, John Baker banjo and Guy Fenton on drums, all very experienced South West traditional New Orleans players.

It is with great regret and much sadness I have to inform you of the passing away of my/our trumpet player Angus Thomson, on 03/09/2019. A member of The Steve Tucker All Star Jazz Band for 19 years. Angus and I met 25 years ago as we were both members of The Ploughboy Jazz Band, a very popular busy west country traditional New Orleans style band and both hit it off straight away. You will be sadly missed my friend, Steve. x RIP
It is with regret we announce the sad passing away of clarinet player Gordon
Hunt on Saturday the 26th of April 2014, aged 76.
He was a huge inspiration
in New Orleans Jazz music to me/us and so many. R.I.P. Gordon.
Also it is with extreme regret we announce the very sad passing away on the 17th of May 2014 of Dave Soby, the original founder pianist of The Steve Tucker All Star Jazz Band. Dave and I started the band together 13 years ago. He was an extremely talented professional jazz, stride, boogie and blues pianist, but more importantly a very close friend.
He had been suffering from cancer for the last few years and leaves dearly loved wife Monica and children Helen, Mark and Rebbeca. R.I.P. our dear friend Dave Soby.
Their second album in 2003 expanded the line up to include the already mentioned and featured other musical friends of Steve: Dave Soby on piano, Graham Trevarton trumpet, Ron Milford trombone, Dave Vaughan reeds, Malcolm Hurrell banjo, Stan Thomas reeds, Angus Thomson cornet, Tim Bragg drums and Brian Huggett reeds.
From this plethora of musicians Steve brought together Dave Soby, Angus Thomson, Dave Vaughan and Tim Bragg.
10 years on and 6 albums later pianist Simon Banks joined the band, Jim Newton plays drums and percussion and John Westaway played the guitar. John has now retired from the band and replacing him is the amazing virtuoso guitarist John Broad, known as JB, a very experienced exciting jazz guitarist. We have expanded the band to a 7 piece and welcome the dynamic extremely talented trombone player Terry Williams. Our choice piano players are Craig Milverton, James Clemas, Matt Carter and Colin Mitchell.
